Beskrivelse
Shabbona (Sha-bon-ney) (1775-1859) was an Ottawa tribe member, born on the Kankakee River, who became a chief within the Potawatomi tribe in Illinois. His name means "indomitable", "hardy", "built like a bear." Shabbona was a grandnephew of Pontiac, the famous Ottawa leader. He aided Shawnee Chief Tecumseh and participated in the Battle of the Thames where Tecumseh was killed in 1812. Shabbona became a "friend of the whites" and warned other tribes not to resist encroachment. This book "Chief Shabbona - Bear Of Kankakee" traces Shabbona's activity through the War Of 1812, the death of Tecumseh, the Red Bird Uprising, the Black Hawk War, and through his legacy until death in 1859 at age 84.
