Poet Laureate Alfred, Lord Tennyson's drama Becket is a gripping exploration of the conflict between Thomas Becket, the archbishop of Canterbury, and his former friend and monarch, King Henry II. Based on the historical events that led to Becket's murder in Canterbury Cathedral in 1170, Tennyson's play creates vivid and complex characters who grapple with power, loyalty, and betrayal in a medieval world strained by religious and political tensions.
