Encaustic is an ancient medium that dates back to the Greeks and uses hot pigmented wax. It has been since artist Jasper Johns and the Abstract Expressionists that encaustic has become more accessible and popular today with artists across the country. It offers a luminosity and versatility that is different from other artistic mediums today. The exhibition is a curated selection of work from a group of talented artists in the Detroit area who are successfully incorporating encaustic in a variety of unique and dynamic ways as part of their artwork.
