Excerpt from Tote Listoire De France: Chronique Saintongeaise
I at first printed my own ms. - as being readier to transcribe - intending to note only the various readings in the Paris ms. But in collating the latter at the Bibliotheque Nationals I soon arrived at the conclusi... on that if only one text was to be printed it should certainly have been the Paris text; and that to allow the later ms. To stand as the main text, with the earlier only used for various readings, would be unscholarly and inadequate. Thus it comes about that the two texts are here printed side by Side.
