From the exhibition of fuch a number of theatrical piece... s, it does not appear that his fortune re ceived a proportionable improvement. He frequently complains that his diligence and abilities were infufficient to fatisfy the importunities of want, and to fet penury at defiance for his profits were not great, as a play feldom produced him more than a hundred pounds, by the accumulated gain of the third night, the dedication, and the copy.
