Excerpt from The Temptation of Christ: A Poem
For con¿ict so momentous and sublime? Were ever forces, so stupendous, marshalled For battle, in the cause of Good and Evil Darkness and Light - Bondage and Liberty Falsehood and Truth - Felicity and Woe Salvation and Perdition - ... Heaven and Hell As here, in their respective champions, are Arrayed, and into dire collision brought The mighty combatants have ta'en the field Nearer and nearer they approach each other. In close proximity, at length. They stand, Encountering earnestly each others gaze Each measuring, with subtle mental gauge The prowess and the tactics of his foe.
