Forlagets beskrivelse
Excerpt from The Poetical Works of Sir Richard Blackmore: Containing Creation, a Philosophical Poem, in Seven Books; To Which Is Prefixed the Life of the Author

IT has been the opinion of many perfons of great fenfe and learning, that the knowledge of a God, as well as fome Other {elf-evident and uncontefled notions, is born with us, and exifls antecedent to any perception or operation of the mind. They exprefs themfelves on this fubjca; in metaphorical terms, altogether unbecoming philofophical and indicions inquiries, while they a¿ert, that the nowledge of a God is interwoven with our con ¿itution, that it is written, engraven, ¿amped, and imprinted in clear and difcernible charaétcrs on the heart; in which manner of fpcech they a¿'e& to follow the great Orator of the Romans. By thefe tunartful phrafes they can mean no thing but this, that the propofttion, Tim: is a Goa', is aélually exittcnt in the mind, as foon as the mind has its being and is not at firfl acquired, though it may be afterwards confirmed, by any aét of reafon, by any argument or demonllration. L mull confefs my inability to conceive this inbred knowledge, thele original independent ideas, that owe not their being to the operation of the under ¿anding, but are, I know not how, congenite and po-cxillcut with it.
