Please don't let the title mislead you into thinking that I believe Common Core is perfect and the greatest thing ever. Regardless of whether or not you support Common Core, you hopefully are in support of accountability. Call it "Common Core," the now-defunct "California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)," or some other not-yet-thought-up acronym... Simply put, if some sort of measure of accountability is not put in place, then schools with their near-100% graduation rate will continue to brag about their achievements without disclosing the means by which their "miraculous" data is achieved. The public is being hornswaggled with sexy numbers and a false sense of achievement by the RADs and Das-Datas out there (see book for details) who don't think we're smart enough to ask how the proverbial sausage is made, and the jungle-gym has now become The Jungle. It's time for actual transparency in Public Education, and it's up to us to tear down the walls between the classroom and the data, finally demanding the accountability we deserve... The Need For Common Core, after all, is really about the need for accountability.
