For every age and for every condition, good manners pro vide helpful equipment. To the young man or the young woman, a knowledge of correct usage gives self-possession and charm. True courtesy is exhibited in simple, natural... , sincere manners. Conventional rules are not arbitrary; they have grown up little by little during hundreds of years, just as the common law of our courts has grown. These rules will change but it does not follow that we may underrate or ignore them. Their underlying principle is consideration for others.
