Excerpt from The Economic Organisation of Soviet Russia: A Brief Sketch of the Organisation and the Present Situation of Industry in Russia
The absence of Russia's in¿uence on the world market had the most powerful effect on the internal economy of a number of countries which... experienced a lack of raw materials hitherto imported from Russia. Such forms of raw material as timber, ¿ax, hemp, were supplied to the European countries by Russia. The shortage of ¿ax was felt not only by Germany and France, but also by England.
Similarly, such goods as platinum, furs, etc., had been imported into Western Europe from Russia.
