Excerpt from The Charter of Wulfrún to the Monastery at "Hamtun" (Wolverhampton)
Monasticon gives the parcels both in Latin and anglo-saxon, the latter being badly and inaccurately printed. The Latin translation was evidently made by a person imperfectly acquainted with anglo... -saxon and the blanks in the latter portion exist also in the Latin, showing that the original Charter had, in places, become illegible when the Latin translation was made. For these reasons it seems doubtful if Dugdale or Dodsworth saw the original Charter. The text has been carefully revised and translated by my friend, Mr. William Henry Stevenson, of Nottingham, an accomplished anglo-saxon scholar, and the learned editor of the Records of the Borough of Nottingham. The Charter is not given in the Codex Diplomaticus, though Kemble professes to include every anglo-saxon Charter contained in the Monasticon.
