But, if justice does not allow us to implicate our friends, she commands us to acknowledge ourselves obliged. And here I cannot omit to repeat the high sense I entertain of Mr. Turner's valuable assistance in the publication ... of these poems; nor am I less ¿attered by the friendship which that gentleman has evinced to the author, than by his candid criticisms on the book. If I have not, in every instance, followed the correo tions which he has suggested, it proceeded my own inability, than any want of confidence in judgment.
