Excerpt from Rutledge Family Records
Thomas rutledge, son of john and jane (off icer) rutledge, natives of Ireland, who immigrated to America, probably about the year 1765, or earlier, was born near Charleston, South Carolina, Oct. 17, 1768, married sarah smith, in Georgia ab... out 1796, removed to Hender son County, Kentucky, about 1802, served With the Rangers against the Indians about 1810-1814, again removed to White County, Ill. Served there as a Justice of the Peace Jan. 10, 1816 to Nov. 17, 1818, also from April 23, 1818 to He came to what is now mclean County, Ill. In 1826, and died Aug. 20, 1830. His wife was born Aug. 23, 1778, and died Dec. 12, 1843. They were interred in Oak Grove Cemetery, near Leroy, Ill. His being the first burial there and his wife's the one hundredth. His parents emigrated first to South Car olina, removed thence to Pennsylvania, and later to White Co. 111. Where they died. They also had, at least, two other sons, robert rutledge, and william rutledge, both Soldiers in the War of 1812. The children and grand-children of tho mas and sarah (smith) rutledge were as follows.
