Few conditions are less understood than dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as multiple personality disorder. Treated either as a topic for film entertainment or a subject for doctoral research, true-to-life stories of people living with DID are rare.

Our Voices is a candid account of the hardships that people with DID face, from obtaining a correct diagnosis to convincing professionals and laypeople alike about the realities of this disorder. It also chronicles the stories of women who have built lives, careers, and relationships that are surprisingly hopeful-and normal.

Their stories are framed by commentary from author and interviewer Elizabeth M.W.-B. Green, PhD, a mental health expert who has treated adult survivors of childhood abuse for thirty years.
