Beskrivelse

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by the tubercle bacillus (Mycobactierium tuberculosis), which most often affects the lungs. It is transmitted through the expectoration of droplets of bronchial secretions by persons with tuberculosis disease. Extra-pulmonary forms of TB have been described. Depending on the sites involved, they result from neighborhood extension or hematogenous dissemination. The sites most often involved are, apart from the lung parenchyma and according to a decreasing frequency, the lymph nodes, the pleura, the urogenital tract, the bones and joints, the meninges and the peritoneum. However, all other organs or systems may be affected. The oral and maxillofacial locations are included in each of these locations. These are mucosal, bony and cutaneous locations.
