December 1941: The United States enters into war and attempts to support the Chinese nationalists (Guomindang) who allied with them against Japan. 1942: President Roosevelt launches Operation Dragon to support the Guomindang and decides to send a Secret Service contingent to Tibet, directed by Brooke Dolan and Ilya Tolstoy (grandson of the writer). They carried a letter, dated 3 July 1942, which President Roosevelt addressed to the Dalai Lama, to obtain safe passage for him and to resupply General Stivell and the Guomindang. The audience with the Dalai Lama took place 20th December 1942 - an extroardinary and unprecedented page in history.TEXT IN FRENCH
