Excerpt from Memoirs of the Department of Agriculture in India, Vol. 3: Botanical Series
The first step in the improvement of Indian tobaccos was necessarily the study of the various races at present cultivated in the country. The material for this work was obtained from a la... rge collection of Indian tobaccos growing on the Prisa Farm in 1907. This collection was made in 1905 and our selections ere made from the second generation of Ptisa-grown plants. All the types, both of N. Tabacum and also of N. Omslica, were selected in 1907 and have been grown in pure culture in the Botanical Area at Prisa for the last two seasons.
