Excerpt from Low's Mixture of Poetry and Prose
Who, and what is such a one, is a very common ques tion and this query is likely to be more earnestly put, when any new author appears. The public have an undoubted right to be informed, as far as is possible, concerning any one ... who presumes to be an author; although some may be of the Opinion, that it does not so much matter who or what the writer be, so that he write well. Although I may attempt to give an out line of my life, as far as it has already gone, I have kept no diary and, therefore, anything contained here. In is entirely from memory, and cannot be so concise as I would wish. Nor do I make this attempt, because I think there is any thing very remarkable in my life but chie¿y, that, as it may happen to come in the way of any young persons, they may avoid at least some of the errors into which I have fallen.
