Literature of the 1970s: Things Fall Apart, Again

This study comprehensively surveys the production of drama, poetry, and narrative prose in a wildly experimental decade. It conducts exemplary close analyses of literary texts, performance events, critical and theoretical developments, and the influence of such institutions as the National Theatre and British Poetry Society. In doing so, the volume calls attention to key areas of tension within the decade's literary, cultural, and political events, including issues of identity and madness, family life and "alternative" gender identities, immigrant experiences, devolution and independence struggles, terrorism, and the continual threat of economic and social collapse.
