No one who reads the debate can doubt that. Eli... jah H. Norton, who represented the Platte district, was one of the leaders of the small opposition minority. He fought the measure from its introduction to the end of the session.
One point which Judge Norton made was that Missouri could not free her slaves without paying the owners the full equivalent for them. He said.
