As other notes concerning the places of chief historic interest in the County of Limerick, were put together by the writer more for his own information than with any eye towards their publication, at least in a book form. Whatever time cou... ld be spared from other occupatlons was employed some years ago in collecting and throwing into readable form whatever could be got together respecting the castles and abbeys, so many of which are to be found dotted over the County of Limerick, and con cerning which so little is popularly known. In the pursuit of such a study the City of Limerick must of course have occupied the most important place, for to omit it would be like leavmg out the part of Hamlet in the play. The whole was to some ex tent completed and the manuscript had been laid aside for the last five or six years, though portions have occasionally found their way into print. When.
