Excerpt from Latin Prose Rhythm: A New Method of Investigation
I have read carefully all the more important contributions to the subject of ancient prose rhythm, especially the works of Zielinski, Zander and De Groot. While great services have been rendered by such investigat... ors, the want of unanimity among competent scholars shows that there is still a secret to discover. To unfold what I believe to be the secret is the main object of this book. Chapters 1-11 deal with the classification of sentences and with their constituent word-groups or kola. Chapter III shows how the rhythm of such word-groups is to be examined.
