Excerpt from Goethe's Hermann Und Dorothea: Edited With Introduction, Appendices, Notes, and Vocabulary

I have read the p... oem with classes more than twenty times. For a number of years I have put on the final examination paper the question: Arrange in your order of preference the books that have been read in this course. N o matter how many books were read or in what order they were read Hermann and Dorothea has practically always won first place.
