Has anything really changed in the past 25 years?

On the surface, there are significant changes or shifts in technology, health care and culture. We have seen the demise of some old industries and the rising of some new ones: mail vs email, cable vs satellite, telephones vs video conferencing, buying a CD versus downloading and the list goes on.

Regardless of all the superficial changes, our financial goals have not changed: we all want to reduce our debt, pay less taxes, own a home, educate our children and retire in comfort. We are still wired to weigh up risk versus reward. Many of us still make decisions based on fear and greed.

That is why I start most of the chapters with short stories about real people and the financial lessons that they have learned-the same principles that you and I need to follow in our financial lives.
