Forlagets beskrivelse
Excerpt from Ein Besuch Bei Charles Dickens Im Sommer 1857

John Forster, the lifelong friend of Dickens, says in his renowned work, The Life of Charles Dickens (vol. III. P. Hans Andersen, the Dane, had just arrived upon a visit to Dickens at Gadshill Place, when Douglas Jerrold's unexpected death befell. The incidents of this ten weeks' stay at Dickens's home, in one of the most attractive and historic parts of Kent, have furnished our poet the materials for A Visit to Charles Dickens in the Year 1857, which in this school edition is published for the first time in this country. As in his longer works of travel, such as A Poet's Bazur and Shadows of Travel, Andersen discloses his admirable talent for picturing land and people. His accounts never become trivial; from his idealistic standpoint he discovers elevating and edifying traits even in every-day occurrences.

It is confidently expected that the untold number of the great English novelist's admirers will welcome this unique character-sketch and glowing account of his life at home and in public, for which we have to thank no lesser man than the ever-popular Danish story-teller.
