Excerpt from Das Deutsche Buch Für Anfänger: Praktische Methode Zum Lesen Und Sprechen
The spelling of the present edition has been made to conform to the newest official rules, which have been in use in the Prussian schools since April, 1903.
A constant e¿ort is mad... e to emphasize the relations be tween German and English. In the first and third parts of the book it will be noted that the German words used closely resemble, in many cases, the corresponding English words. The teacher is urged to call attention to the illus trations of Grimm's law which these words furnish. Op portunities for conversation occur throughout the book, but particularly in Part IV, in connection with the descriptions of the household and other familiar things. The acquire ment of a vocabulary is one of the objects kept in view. Not only the conversational exercises but also the selec tions for memorizing in Part V and elsewhere conduce to this. A thorough study of the book should give the pupil a large vocabulary of words used in every-day life and in traveling.
