Walter's newest novel is an extraordinarily and fabulously written book from his Aunt Catherine's point of view. It is a poignant tale about her memories of her childhood love for horses that she carried with her throughout her life. The story begins when she comes to terms with the nearness of her death. Through her flashbacks Catharine determines to pay a final tribute to the horses that meant everything to her. Walter carefully and skillfully captures her memories in a gratifying novel that shows his aunt's interactions with her horses, developing a zestful look at each horse's traits, appearances, and personalities. With a brilliant stroke, Walter shows his family history through variant stages of their lives: the death of Cathy's beloved step-father, the miscarriage of her first child, the Vietnam War, the political arena that effected American industrialism. This ambitious, stylistically wonderful epic, features many biblical patriarchs as well as Germanic Norse legends, integrating the whole into quite a unique offering. Without a doubt, Walter has achieved a great novel, nicely contrasting Cathy's past physicality with her current frailty, living each day in positive hopes of entering God's Paradise promise.
