Excerpt from Butterworths' Commercial French Handbook
IN the course of my long experience as a French teacher in England, it has sometimes happened that a father came to introduce his son to me and asked me to teach him Commercial French, not French Grammar or Literature, but... solely Commercial French. Upon examination I found that the boy did not know a word of the language. I wonder what an English schoolmaster would say, if he were asked to teach a boy Commercial English - no grammar, no parsing, nothing in fact but Commercial English!
