The Boost Spelling Skills series providesstrategies to improve primary school pupils' spelling skills, making them moreconfident readers and writers.

Teaching childrento spell is essential if we want them to become confident writers. Goodspellers can write more fluently, as they don't have to pause to consider howeach word should be spelt. Furthermore, children with good spelling skills aremore likely to make adventurous vocabulary choices and be better at reading.

The books willboost children's spelling skills by providing them with strategies to help themspell and read unfamiliar words, including breaking down words by syllables,memory joggers and using rhyming patterns. Targeted dictation exercises provideopportunity for reinforcement and consolidation.

Book 1 is designed foruse in Year 2 but can be used with older children who are struggling withspelling. It follows the Letters and Sounds guidelines for Phases 2-6 andexplores high frequency key words, specific letter patterns, suffix endings andkey spelling rules.

Book 2 will helpteachers to introduce and reinforce spelling skills needed to successfullylearn and use the words in the National Curriculum spelling list for Years 3and 4. It is designed for use in lower Key Stage 2 but can also be used byolder pupils who find spelling challenging.
