    Før Leonard Cohen blev internationalt berømt som sanger og sangskriver, var han allerede en anerkendt digter. Efter hans populære digtsamling "Book of Mercy" fra 1984, holdt han dog en lang pause fra poesiens verden. 

    Der kom nemlig til at gå 20 år før digtsamlingen "Book of Longing" endelig så dagens lys. Cohens smukke og sjælfulde digte blev skrevet i Montreal, Mumbai og i løbet af hans otium i Mt. Baldy.
