Excerpt from A German Method for Beginners
The Syntax is a simple, orderly statement of essential rules, and is adequate for the work' in high schools and smaller col leges. Especial attention is called 'to the exactness with which the sounds of the letters are given; to the ... simple treatment of gender, the bugbear' of all students; to the natural classification of nouns, and the elimination of the usual complicated and arbitrary subdivisions; to the omis sion of the so - called mixed declension and to the easy and natural wording of the rules.
The vocabulary contains all the words and forms that; occur in the text. The principal parts of verbs are given in full. This fixes them more firmly in the memory' than the mere statement that the verb is regular, or a reference to a list of irregular verbs. The printing of the article before the noun, in all cases, will appeal to teachers. There are but two ways of learning German genders, absorption and brute force.
Those who prefer the latter method will be. In no way hampered by the adaptation of the book to the former one.
