Difficulties and hardships teach our children about resiliency, grit, and success. When we help students escape the hardships, challenges, and failures that confront them, we are interrupting the acquisition of the problem-solving skills they are going to need to propel them in the next phase of their life. The activities and lessons in this book will help students learn about and explore problem-solving skills and strategies that can help them overcome negative thought processes, cultivate more positive behaviors, and develop life-long critical thinking abilities by focusing on the opportunities instead of "drowning" under the weight of their problems. The lessons have been structured in such a way that they can be taught in a class period, or can be extended and approached in ways that spread the lesson out over two or three class times.
